Paso del Coyote

Medicinal plants, mountain agriculture and a little non-technical rock climbing

This hike – Paso del Coyote/Coyote Pass – starts in the heart of the village of Cuajimoloyas and takes us out through the agricultural fields of the village. There’s a large variety of medicinal plants to learn about on the way, plenty of flowers and lots of giant agaves. (The original Zapotec name for the village is Ya’a Cuetzi or Agave Flower.)

Then it’s an exciting scramble up the rocky chute of Paso del Coyote and, if you want, even higher to the mirador/viewpoint where there is a commanding view of the surrounding forests and valleys. (We can modify this hike for anyone not comfortable with heights but most people go for it!)
