This ecotourism project was created by eight Zapotec communities working hand in hand and has become a model for community-based ecotourism throughout Mexico. The forest lands of the Pueblos Mancomunados extend across the Sierra Norte de Oaxaca at elevations ranging from 2,000 to 3,000 meters (6,500 to 10,000 feet).
The villages themselves vary in size, with populations ranging from around 80 to 850 inhabitants. Together, they offer a remarkable diversity of hiking experiences, landscapes, and cultural encounters, allowing visitors to discover the traditions and daily life of several distinct Zapotec communities.
We have been working with the Pueblos Mancomunados since 1999 and are happy to design a tour tailored to your interests, pace, and travel style.
