Just a short drive east of Oaxaca are caves which harbored the earliest evidence of cultivated corn. This area, near the archeological site of Mitla, is now protected by the commission of communal lands (Comisariado de Bienes Comunales) of San Pablo Villa de Mitla. This hike takes us out through desert cactus and brush to some of the caves to admire the ancient cave paintings.
