Mountain Reconnection with Ester in San Antonio Cuajimoloyas offered by Tierra Sagrada

Mountain Reconnection Experience

Journey of Cleansing, Connection & Ancestral Paths in the Sierra Norte

Journey: Outer Journey - The Horizon

Some journeys aren't meant to be rushed. Mountain Reconnection is a four-day immersion into the Sierra Norte de Oaxaca — a landscape of forests, ancient pathways, living healing traditions, and sites still honored as sacred — moving between ceremony, walking, community encounters, and stillness. It's an invitation to follow both an outer path through the mountains and an inner path of genuine personal reconnection.

Day 1: Cleansing Ceremony & Temazcal at Rancho Media Luna

The journey begins at Rancho Media Luna, Tierra Sagrada's home near Oaxaca City, with a traditional cleansing ceremony — an intentional opening designed to release what no longer serves and create space for clarity and renewal. This is followed by a temazcal, the ancestral Mesoamerican steam bath, guided with herbs, song, and intention inside its warm, womb-like dome. Within this space, you are invited to reconnect with breath, body, and the surrounding natural world — a gentle but powerful beginning that prepares you for what awaits in the mountains ahead.

Day 2: Plant Medicine Walk in Cuajimoloyas, Overnight in Latuvi

The second day travels into the highlands, entering the pine forests of Cuajimoloyas, where you are welcomed by Ester, a local healer and part of Tierra Sagrada's extended family through years of shared experience. Walking through her ancestral territory, you learn directly about medicinal plants and the traditional ecological knowledge still carried through daily practice and relationship with the land. One of the day's highlights is a shared meal prepared by Marta Contreras, a traditional community cook whose food reflects the same philosophy underlying the whole journey — that food, too, is medicine. We then continues to Santa Martha Latuvi, spending the night in community cabins surrounded by mountain silence.

Day 3: Walking the Ancestral Trading Path to Lachatao

Day three centers on a 14-kilometer hike following part of the historic Camino Real, an ancient pre-Hispanic trading route that once connected communities through exchange, movement, and ceremony. Walking this path offers more than physical distance covered — it introduces a different rhythm of travel altogether: slower, more attentive, and deeply connected to place. Arriving in Santa Catarina Lachatao, we settle into one of the most historically and spiritually significant villages in the entire Sierra Norte, resting ahead of the journey's culmination.

Day 4: The Sacred Hill of the Jaguar & Return to Oaxaca

The final day is dedicated to the sacred Cerro del Jaguar (Hill of the Jaguar) in Lachatao — an ancient ceremonial site now once again honored by the community through equinox celebrations and collective gatherings. The ascent itself becomes part of the ritual, an invitation into silence, presence, and deep connection with the mountain. For those who feel called, this final day can optionally include a private sacred plant medicine ceremony on the Hill of the Jaguar, held in an intimate, carefully prepared setting and approached with deep respect for local tradition, offering space for reflection, intention, and connection. By choosing this option you remain an additional night in the mountains, allowing time for rest and integration before returning to Oaxaca City the following morning — honoring the importance of moving gently as the experience settles.

A Journey of Relationship, Not Just Exploration

What distinguishes Mountain Reconnection from a standard multi-day trek is its foundation in genuine, long-standing relationships — with healers, traditional cooks, and communities that have welcomed Claudia & Yves for years. This is a journey for whom seeking not only to explore the Sierra Norte's landscapes, but to walk in relationship with its land, its people, and the ancestral pathways that continue to live through them. For anyone drawn to ceremonial trekking in Oaxaca, ancestral plant knowledge, or a multi-day journey combining traditional Mexican healing practices with genuine mountain immersion, this experience offers unusual depth across both body and spirit.
