The land

Tierraventura is a small company based in Oaxaca, offering hiking tours and deep encounters with Indigenous communities far beyond the usual tourist routes.

After many years working together with communities throughout the state, we have built close relationships that today feel more like family. This trust opens doors into places, traditions, and ways of life that are rarely accessible to outsiders, allowing us to create very personal and authentic journeys that reveal a different face of Oaxaca.

Oaxaca is one of the most diverse regions in Mexico: of the nine existing vegetation types in the country , seven can be found here. The state is home to sixteen ethnic groups speaking more than fifty languages, and with 95% of its territory covered by mountains, many Indigenous communities remain remote and deeply connected to their ancestral traditions.

Through our tours and collaborations with community projects, we seek to build respectful bridges between travelers and local communities — creating experiences that connect culture, nature, and human encounter in a meaningful and sustainable way.

Del Maiz

The Central Valleys are the cultural heart of Oaxaca — a landscape shaped by ancient civilizations, traditional agriculture, and generations of master artisans. Surrounded by mountains and fertile lands, this region is home to vibrant markets, archaeological treasures, ancestral weaving, pottery, mezcal traditions, and the deep relationship between the people and corn, the sacred foundation of Mexican culture.

Del Cafe y la Playa

From the mountains down to the ocean, this journey follows ancient routes through coffee-growing regions, tropical landscapes, and small coastal communities. Along the way, travelers encounter rich biodiversity and the warm spirit of Oaxaca’s Pacific coast — where the rhythm of the mountains slowly gives way to the sea, the beaches, and the scent of coffee carried through the hills.

Journey deep into the mountains of the Sierra Norte, where cloud forests, hidden trails, and Indigenous Zapotec communities are woven together through ancient traditions and communal life.
